Reception Photo Shoot Saturday 9.24.16

Hi all, So, I am still trying to learn my camera.  It’s a process :) !  One of my co-workers knew I was into Photography, so she asked if I could take the pictures at her wedding reception.  I happily volunteered yes.  She did not have some big fancy wedding.  Her and her Hubby got married at the court house.  Their reception was just a small family get together celebration of the union of these two gorgeous people.

In the past, I have only done Urban Photo shoots.  Local rappers or wanna-be models was my clientele.  It was cool and fun and practice for me to be able to get better.  I think in the near future, I would like to be able to do weddings, receptions and engagement photos.  Every chance I get, I do free photo-shoots.  It is a hobby and I love doing it.  Hopefully I will be able to turn this into a business.

So, about the photo-shoot, well about 30 minutes in, one of my lenses stopped working on my camera.  I was so scared I was going to not be able to capture the reception images.  I felt horrible.  When the bride and groom came in the room for the first time, my lens had just quit.  So, I pulled out my I-phone because that initial appearance as Husband and Wife is so important.  I got a decent shot.  Luckily I had an extra lens in my bag but it was my longer lens. (I really need to invest in some lenses)  I recently upgraded my camera to a Nikon D7100.  That’s an upgrade from my previous camera which was a Nikon D3100.   It takes great pictures and since I am an amateur and all, it does the job while I am trying to perfect and understand the Art of Photography.    So, after all that rambling about the reception and lenses, the moral to the story is if you are going to shoot someone’s precious moments, please bring extra lenses, batteries, and SD cards as needed.
